Casino Pier in Seaside Heights Rebuilding After Hurricane Sandy

The Jersey Shore is at an important crossroad in the rebuilding process after Hurricane Sandy.

Last Wednesday marked 100 days since the storm. Today marks 100 days until Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start to the summer tourism season at the Jersey Shore.

While much progress has been made, with families slowly returning to their homes and businesses reopening, there is still work to be done. Nowhere is that more evident than at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights where the image of the Jet Star rollercoaster, fallen from the pier and partially submerged in the Atlantic Ocean has become emblematic of the destruction wrought by Sandy last fall.

Recently a small crew from including radio personality Andy Chase from 105.7 The Hawk, Mike Schwartz from the non-profit Hometown Heroes and Restore the Shore Managing Editor Tom Dunphy were allowed onto the pier with the permission of Casino Pier Operations Manager Lou Cirigliano.

Here is the video they shot:

Note: This video was shot under the supervision of Casino Pier staff and management, the area is not safe and under no circumstances should be accessed by the public.
