Joaquin Postpones Multiple Weekend Events

This is normally one of the shore’s busiest post-summer weekends, but Hurricane Joaquin’s uncertain trajectory and intensity has forced reschedulings that promise to turn next weekend into Eventapalooza.

Among the late additions:

  • The Zombie Walk in Asbury Park is moved to October 10.
  • The Hope Sheds Light Walk in Seaside Heights is moved to October 10.
  • Brick Township Police phone-in public comment session for its national accreditation review takes place October 4, 10 AM until 12 Noon, 732-262-1107.
  • Silverton Fire Company (Toms River) Fall Festival and Poker Run is cancelled outright, no reschedule date.
  • Chowderfest on Long Beach Island is cancelled. Organizers at the Southern Ocean County Chamber say any rescheduling moves will begin once the hurricane threat subsides.
  • Howell Day, October 3, is cancelled.
  • The New Jersey DEP’s Fall Forestry Festival is cancelled. Follow this link to the DEP tab that displays which state parks are open and closed.
  • The Tournament of Champions marching band competition at Jackson Memorial High School, scheduled for October 3, is cancelled.
In Berkeley Township, officials are letting folks in low-lying areas subject to flooding to leave their cars in the Central Regional Middle School lot off Forest Hills Parkway.
In Toms River, people in flood-prone spots are being encouraged to park their cars in Castle Park, at North Bay and Oak Avenues.

Burlington County’s Silent Witness Project conducts its annual memorial ceremony as scheduled, October 2 at 1 PM, on the Rowan College campus. Two new silhouettes added to the standing display bring the total to 20, each representing county residents who deaths resulted from domestic violence. One commemorates a 17-month-old infant beaten to death in 2008; the other is in the shape of a dog, to represent pets that died as a result of abuse.
