Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund Awards $1.1 Million

Six nonprofit disaster relief organizations that serve the shore area will be getting a much needed cash infusion.

The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, led by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, announces the award of $1.1 million dollars in grants of varying amounts.

The recipients are: Affordable Housing Alliance Inc. - $125,000, Community Health Law Project - $125,000, Jersey Cares - $160,000, UCEDC - $500,000, Your Grandmother's Cupboard - $16,000, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice - $266,000.

The fund has awarded more than 80 grants totaling $16.1 million.

"These grants again demonstrate our long-term commitment to rebuilding a stronger New Jersey. We are proud of the impact the Fund and our grantees have had in storm affected areas. With their help over 35,000 individuals have received case management services, roughly 29,000 volunteers have been mobilized, almost 20,000 students will benefit from technology repairs in schools, mental health support has been provided to 1,200 individuals and over 300 families have returned home, says Christie."

The fund will be awarding $4 million more dollars by October 31st. Eligible non-profits working in Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts are encouraged to apply before the rolling grant cycle closes on October 3rd. Get the grant application at sandynjrelieffund.org.

The fund also announces Sandy Service Day. The fund will be working with Jersey Cares to hold two statewide volunteer days, scheduled for October 26 and October 29.
