Seaside Continues Boardwalk Repairs Through the Snow [AUDIO]
Before any accumulation fell this month, crews had already worked on two key, temperature-sensitive components: rolling out asphalt, and driving in the pilings.
Seaside Heights spokesman Michael Graichen said electrical, plumbing, and gas for the new boardwalk will be all up to code, in order to prevent future fire risks. It will also feature improvements to combat bad weather.
"We have pilings that are going to be 25 feet to 18 feet, and we have hurricane anchors and of course larger pieces of timbers that were used," Graichen said.
Graichen is confident the boardwalk will be open in time for Memorial Day weekend, and he believes visitors will start seeing businesses move back even earlier.
"A lot of them are pushing for St. Patrick's Day and a little after that," Graichen said.
While Seaside Heights does its part to rebuild, the adjoining community of Seaside Park is also continuing its work. Graichen said he's not sure when Seaside Park's section will be completed, but confirmed that the two boardwalks will be joined once again.
