Months after Superstorm Sandy brought devastation to the Jersey Shore, one town celebrated the reopening of its boardwalk.

Governor Chris Christie was among those in attendance Monday morning for the ceremonial hammering of the final nail in the Lavallette boardwalk.

The barrier island between Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights was one of the most severely affected by Sandy's late-October 2012 arrival and Lavallette has been ahead of the curve in terms of rebuilding and repopulation.

While many residents are still mired the recovery process, the governor told those in attendance that the Jersey Shore would be open for Memorial Day Weekend.
